SDI Wreck Diver Specialty Course | Vancouver
The SDI Wreck Diver Specialty Course is the perfect way to begin your wreck diving adventures! At Diving Sports Canada, we offer a 2-day comprehensive course focused on wreck safety, exploration techniques, and line management — available at two certification levels: No-Penetration and Limited-Penetration.
Wreck diving can be one of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of scuba diving — but it also requires strong skills, careful planning, and the right mindset. This course provides you with the tools, knowledge, and experience to safely explore underwater shipwrecks in British Columbia and beyond.
Who is this course for:
Any certified diver interested in expanding their dive skills, learning safe wreck diving techniques, and exploring local shipwrecks such as the HMCS Annapolis in Howe Sound.
Course Description:
You’ll receive your SDI eLearning access prior to the course. The training runs over one full weekend:
- Day 1: Shore dives — review theory, perform land-based line drills, and practice wreck diving techniques.
- Day 2: Boat dives on a local wreck (HMCS Annapolis). Conduct mapping exercises, external drills, and — for qualified students — limited wreck penetration.
Students will complete either 2 dives (non-penetration) or 4 dives (limited penetration), depending on experience and instructor assessment.

- 2 Shore Dives + 2 Boat Dives
- Transportation from Diving Sports Canada (limited seating)
- Basic rental gear including drysuit (if certified)
- Dryland practice of line and emergency drills
- Certification fees upon completion
What’s Not Included:
- Personal gear (mask, snorkel, gloves, computer)
- Wreck diving tools (finger spool or reel, backup light)
- Nitrox fills
- Undergarment layers for drysuit training
- Additional training dives if required — see Private Training Rates here
Prerequisites:
- Advanced Open Water Diver or Advanced Adventure Diver
- Deep Diver Specialty or proof of 10+ dives deeper than 18m/60ft
- Nitrox Specialty recommended
- Cold water or drysuit experience within the last 6 months
- Minimum 20 cold-water dives
- Dive computer required
- Completed medical form (if applicable) – Download here
Equipment Requirements:
- Basic scuba gear (sidemount or backmounted doubles recommended)
- 1 primary light & 1 backup light
- Primary spool or reel for line tie-offs
- DSMB & slate for mapping

Using a Drysuit for Wreck Training:
Planning to dive in a drysuit during your Wreck course? You must have a Drysuit Specialty certification. Don’t have it yet? Take our Drysuit Specialty Course.
Transportation:
Transport is available from our Vancouver shop to the dive sites (maximum 7 passengers). Spaces are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Meet times are 1 hour earlier for those requiring transportation.
