I grew up in the Fraser valley and spent my childhood on Harrison lake, adventuring to Vancouver island in the summers. Having an appreciation for our environment has always been important to me and the more time I spent in the water the more human impact I would see. SO I started to dive to remove all the trash I would find, and at the same time I would come across some lost valuables, and try my best to return them to their owners.
During the lockdowns I started to document a lot of my water adventures and that grew into my youtube page Aquatic Monkey. The more time I spent in the water the more I wanted to explore which meant learning to dive deeper. It wasn’t until fall of 2020 when I couldn't handle our cold Canadian temperatures, that I finally bought my first proper diving suit and a set of freediving fins from Diving Sports. This opened up the world of cold water diving to me and let adventure in our waters year round
Diving for trash and treasures are a big part of my diving world but spearfishing has also been rewarding. Spearfishing and hand harvesting is undeniably the most selective and sustainable way to collect seafood, so I am a big advocate for it. And aside from the wonderful world of freediving I occasionally join the other bubble blowers on some scuba adventures, and would love to further my knowledge of the scuba world.
Although originally from Nova Scotia, Chris moved to British Columbia at the ripe young age of two week old. Being the son of a sailor, Chris spent his youth cruising the Pacific Northwest of British Columbia and Washington on his fathers boat where he became fascinated by the mystical waters of the Salish Sea.
He learned to understand, cherish and respect the cold waters and all of its aquatic inhabitants. Later on in life, skateboarding, followed by boxing, took over Chris's life. After dealing with a barrage of injuries, Chris decided to take up freediving and breathhold harvesting as it was a low impact activity that's good for both the mind and soul.
Since 2018, Chris has spent virtually all of his spare time in the ocean diving up and down the coast of our beautiful province and abroad. You can catch some of his adventures on his youtube channel.PNWSamson: https://www.youtube.com/@PNWSamson
