The Atomic BC1 is for the diver who wants the absolute best world-class BC on the market. Atomic begin with the intention of redefining the product category. Just as they did with regulators, fins and masks Atomic decided it was time to design the ultimate BC. The Atomic BC1 will debut as the definitive leader in the BC category. They started with the realization of the hard punishment the ocean inflicts on dive equipment. So, their priority for a BC was durability. The Atomic BC1 was created using exclusive engineering-grade plastics, polyurethane coated textiles, and corrosion-resistant metals. It is designed to go toe-to-toe with the ocean environment. It's the toughest BC in the world.
Atomics' custom matte-finish fabric has a different look & feel, making this new fabric unlike any other. Not only does it look tough, it's built and designed to hold up year after year. Strong double-laminated polyurethane textile material is designed to hold more pressure. This material will handle cycle and burst pressures to failure nearly double that of standard BC materials. A watershed moment in BC design. Really The Atomic BC1 sheds water like a raincoat. Water does not penetrate the fabric with polyurethane coating on both sides. The exterior coating is thicker to prevent tearing, cutting or leaking. But, the big benefit the BC is virtually dry right after your dive. You will be amazed how easy this is to use, and how securely it holds your tank in place. The concept is like the bindings on ski boots. The ratcheting band quickly adjusts to accommodate a variety of tank sizes and the over-center buckle locks everything tightly in place. Gone are the days of trying to figure out how to weave nylon webbing into a buckle. Just push the molded belt teeth past the ratchet and lock it down with minimal effort.
It's quick and easy to load your weights in or out of the water. Two zippered weight pouches hold up to 10 lbs. (4.5 kg) each of hard or soft weights in sizes small to large and 14 lbs. (6.35 kg) each in x-large. The weight pouches glide into the weight pockets under the arms and lock into place with a reassuring snap." A simple one-handed tug on the handle is all that is needed to release. It's the same principle that has been used for years on Atomics EZ-LOK fin straps. BCD also has rear non-releasable weight pockets that can hold from 6 lbs. to 10 lbs. (2.7 kg to 4.5 kg) depending on the BCD size. The Atomic BC1 is designed to be exclusive even the manufacturing involves a custom hand-crafted sewing process and custom binding tape. An insert-molded polyester reinforced belt in the tank band ensures safety.
Other great features of the BCD are: Custom 316 stainless steel D-rings with titanium PVD coating for accessory attachment, diamond pattern quilted back pad & adjustable lumbar pad. There is a non-skid tank pad w/CNC machined stainless steel hardware molded to the frame & sand-resistant zippers on the two side pockets for additional storage of accessory items. The BCD provides the following lift capacities. Small provides 31 lbs. (14 kg), medium provides 32 lbs. (14.5 kg), medium large provides 36 lbs. (16.33 kg), large 39 lbs. (17.7 kg) and x-large 48 lbs. (21.8 kg). Adjusting the BCD is achieved with torso, sternum & waist adjustable straps. All straps come equipped w/squeeze-style side release buckles for easy donning/doffing. The buckles are made from durable impact resistant plastic for strength & durability. Adjustable cummerbund for added comfort & security.
Buoyancy control is provided by Atomics Safe Second Inflator (SS1) Stainless Steel. When you learned to dive, you were taught specific skills to make you safe and comfortable underwater and at the surface. One of those skills was buoyancy control. Once you start diving for fun you use your BCD constantly thru-out the dive. Your octopus or alternate air source on the other hand is never used unless there is an emergency out of air situation. Reacting properly in an out of air emergency can make the difference between a safe dive and a tragedy. If your octopus & BCD inflator device are combined, you will always know where to find it in an emergency.
The SS1 takes the concept to new levels of convenience, reliability & performance. It contains a high flow 2'nd stage that performs like many high performance second stages. It will deliver air to a diver at depth with minimal effort. It is very stable and not prone to unnecessary free-flow or leakage from water movement while swimming, or during entries or exits. The inflator/deflator is easy to operate with soft-surfaced buttons placed where they can be easily operated with one hand.
The SS1 features a quick disconnect not only on the low-pressure hose, but the BCD hose as well. The adapters that fit the SS1 to the BCD are connected to the SS1 with a threaded collar that can be easily unscrewed to detach it completely from the BCD. Now you can carry or store the SS1 with your primary regulator and gauges (patent pending).
The SS1 combines the functions of the inflator and octopus regulator into a single unit. This reduces the overall bulk and weight of your dive gear; eliminates hoses, and places your back up regulator in a fixed, familiar location. This time proven concept is a convenient and efficient alternative to the dedicated octopus second stage. Reduce your rig by one hose with the high- performance Atomic SS1. Large oversized and ergonomically shaped buttons are easy to find for pneumatic or oral inflation and deflation. They are easy to distinguish and faced with soft tactile rubber surfaces.
The elliptically shaped body of the SS1 lies flat against the BCD keeping it out-of-the-way and reducing drag. Seat wear is the first cause of regulator leaks and performance degradation. The stainless steel dynamic orifice is pressure energized and only- contacts the rubber seat when in use. Equipped with a titanium lever this high strength metal part is the link to your air supply and will never fail due to rust or corrosion. The integrated purge cover is a one-piece flexible cover allows purge of the regulator when depressed anywhere on the cover surface.
The SS1 has 316 grade stainless steel inflation/deflation stem, demand valve body, stainless steel orifice springs and a quick disconnect. The mouthpiece and diaphragm are silicone rubber and the SS1 body is manufactured from fiberglass reinforced nylon. The SS1 is a dependable downstream demand valve design. The SS1 weighs 7 oz. (200 g) without the hose and the hose also weighs 7 oz. (200 g) and measures 28" (71cm) in length. The BCD system comes with owner manuals.
