Why Diving Sports? Learn From Vancouver’s Scuba and Freediving Experts
Diving is an ongoing journey of exploration, education, and connection. The best experiences in diving come from continually broadening your abilities, confidence, and knowledge of the ocean.
Like anything worth doing, it’s worth doing right. Diving Sports believes in building lifelong skills that make better divers. Teaching divers is about so much more than checking skills off a list. It’s about building safe, confident, and capable divers—so you can take on challenges with the right skills, and genuinely love what you’re doing even more.
Decades of Diving Expertise
Every member of the Diving Sports team has been in the water for years, whether scuba diving or freediving. Over the years, we have collectively taught thousands of students, always pushing those we train—and ourselves—to higher levels of capability. Diving with a safety focus is part of who we are, and we want our students to feel that same sense of pride and confidence we feel.
A Higher Standard of Dive Training
We simply do not believe in, or follow, any system that only meets the bare minimum requirements for training or certification. That’s just not how we do things. By training divers to a higher standard, we’re building better habits from the very beginning. The result? Safer, more capable divers who spend more time enjoying their dives than struggling with confidence. Or worse, diving unsafely. When divers are taught well, they dive more, and they stick with it. That’s a win for everyone.
Smaller Groups, More Attention
Nobody likes being crammed into an overcrowded class, especially when you’re learning something as hands-on as diving. That’s why we cap our classes at four students per instructor max, even though we could technically take on larger groups. Keeping it small means more one-on-one time, more focused instruction, and a better learning experience overall for the student and the teacher.
Supporting Our Professional Team
Diving Sports believes that even in Vancouver, you can build a real career in diving while supporting the diving industry as a whole. That’s why our Divemasters and Instructors earn higher-than-average wages. We also believe that supporting our team allows them to support our divers better, which then allows them to support the greater dive community by continuing to dive!
A Thriving Diving Community
One of the most important things for any diver is becoming part of a dive community. Not only is diving better together, but it’s a necessity to find people who share your passion if you want to keep developing your diving experiences. We work hard to foster a strong sense of community among our divers. From organising community get-togethers and clean-up events to hosting guest speakers at the shop, we’re always looking for ways to bring divers together. Helping students connect with local freediving and scuba groups helps ensure that they always have someone to dive with.
Scuba Diving International (SDI)
While we also support PADI courses, we primarily teach through Scuba Diving International (SDI), an agency that shares our values and supports divers across all disciplines. Whether you’re interested in recreational scuba, technical diving, or freediving, SDI gives us the flexibility to tailor training to suit every student’s needs. We believe in the idea of “one dive family,” because no matter your agency, discipline, or location, we’re all divers united by our love of the water.
